Man commits murder to buy gift for lover

HYDERABAD: Police on Tuesday arrested a 24-year-old person, who allegedly killed a toddy shop worker and stole money to buy gifts for his lover on Valentine Day.

According to the KPHB police, Bharadwaj, a resident of KPHB phase-III, used to regularly visit a toddy shop near Kukatpally. Bharadwaj, who is pursuing Degree in distance mode from Dr B R Ambedkar Open University, was in love with a girl and wanted to give a gift to his lover on the Valentine Day. However, he had no money.

On February 12, Bharadwaj went to the toddy shop and killed a worker Karunakar, 18, and fled with Rs 2,500 and a mobile phone from Karunakar's pocket.

Police questioned people present near the toddy compound and one of them told that Bharadwaj was at the shop late on Saturday night. Bharadwaj with the money purchased a teddy bear and two film CDs and presented them to his lover. Police arrested him on Tuesday and remanded him in judicial custody.
